We’re just over half way through Veganuary! How is everybody getting on so far? We bet you’re perfecting the art of ingredient label reading, discovering the joys of finding vegan booze on Barnivore.com, and realising that your body is starting to feel a little… different now you’ve decided to cut out animal products.
With over 160,000 sign ups this year, Veganuary has been a roaring, ethical, beautiful success! Celebrities like Will.i.am have taken the vegan plunge, and Piers Morgan even got in on the action by blasting Veganuary – inadvertently getting more people to sign up! (Cheers, Piers!).
One of those 160,000 people is UK based Codie-Leigh, who has excitingly decided to team up with the Veopolis blog to share her experience of Veganuary with you all!
Read below to hear Codie’s experience of Veganuary so far:
“It’s the 16th already… first of all, how did that happen? Half way through Veganuary!
So, why am I doing this? Well, why wouldn’t I? I’ve been vegetarian for over 18 months now and that’s been bloody amazing. The only thing I have ever thought is – why didn’t I do this sooner and I’m assuming I’ll be saying the same in another 18 months about Veganism.
I basically feel AMAZING! Day 3 I was thinking, how do I have this much energy? And do you know when you question yourself thinking, am I imagining this? But I really don’t think I am. Watch this space.
It’s been a week of discovery. Switching dairy milk for Plant Based milks. Almond Milk in my porridge, Soy Milk in my tea (Yorkshire Tea of course – I’m a northern gal after all). Most my food recipes are vegan anyway, it’s been small swaps, the milk, Plant Based Vegan Flora, none of my Christmas chocolate (thank gosh!). And a week of firsts, my first Vegan Pizza (from Firezza – thank you!), the tastiest curried chickpea sandwich (Pret I love you) and coconut rice milk latte, it’s been indulgent this weekend but purely out of intrigue & we had guests… any excuse! Within all of this there has been many salads – I promise. There’s been lots of porridge.
Hummus is the best thing ever – just saying.
I was organised which helped. Searching for a Vegan Shampoo and Conditioner that makes your hair shiny and nice. I’m getting there! It’s fun to discover, it’s fun to search and find things. I’m enjoying this.
The high street isn’t easy, where I work. But I’m doing it! See mish mash lunch below.
No seriously, why. The planet, our poor bloody planet. The deforestation is out of control. I love this world we live on and with and I just want to help, in any way I can. Health – the more I learn, the more it seems like the only way. The more videos I watch by Dr Klaper and many others, the more I want to become a Plant Based Doctor (you can see it right… okay maybe not), but really, the statistics, they scream EAT PLANTS. And…. the animals. The poor animals that I didn’t connect with for years of my life. The animals you pet at a zoo as a child, the animals you think are cute, the same animals you think deserve to be your food. Wow. Why? Its so confusing when you realise you care and because of how it’s been normalised, you didn’t think about it or connect the dots. I didn’t even go vegetarian for the animals. It was environmental and health. It’s funny, veganism is seen as extreme. Yet it’s literally the definition of compassion, peace and care.
Now, animals are the biggest reason 🌿🌍”
Inspiring! It’s super interesting to know all the different reasons people try veganism. Sometimes it’s health, sometimes it’s environmental reasons, very often it’s animal rights, or sometimes it’s all 3! #FeelGood #HatTrick
