We are a small family business from St Ives, Cornwall. Our particular interest has always been in food that does you good – “food as medicine” – which is the basis of our business. The most fundamental value of Raw Chocolate Pie can be found in its name – it is RAW. Raw food is marvellous.
When eaten raw, food maintains its enzymes, friendly bacteria and high nutritional value. Enzymes are so important, the very building blocks of the body and they are released the moment raw food is chewed instead of being lost in the cooking process. The raw cacao we use in our raw chocolate pie is organic and is a true nutritional aid as well as being an energy boost and mood enhancer. And it’s also delicious!
Our raw choc pies and raw fudge, are free from dairy, gluten or ANY added sugar – and suitable for diabetics, anyone with a wheat or gluten intolerance, anyone with a dairy intolerance, vegetarians and vegans. Coconut oil replaces the dairy and lucuma (a dried Amazonian superfood fruit) replaces sugar. The pie contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and no GMO ingredients.
“CHOLESTEROL BUSTING and GOOD CLEAN FAT”
Instead of dairy, we use raw organic coconut oil which has been proven to speed up the metabolism and provide cardio vascular support. It is a saturated fat, but a good animal-free plantbased fat. It increases the body’s metabolism, therefore burning more energy and helping reduce weight. Coconut oil/butter is also beneficial for the heart as it contains 50% lauric acid which helps prevent high cholesterol and blood pressure.
The properties of raw cacao chocolate are well known for lifting the spirits, easing tiredness of mind and body and acting as a powerful anti-oxidant. For many children and adults, due to their dietary intolerances, chocolate is a treat they cannot enjoy – Raw Chocolate Pie is the answer.
The business is based in Trencrom, a hamlet just a few miles outside St Ives. Trencrom is famous for its hill from which you can see both coasts – the whole of Mounts Bay from Mousehole round to the Lizard, and St Ives Bay and Godrevy lighthouse. Trencom is also famous for its huge boulders which legend has it – being Cornwall (!) – were the playthings of the giant who used to live here.
While times remain hard for all of us, our business is thriving, the star being our raw chocolate pie. At the moment we are increasing production, week on week. It is all very exciting. However, although we hope to grow the business, we are mindful that we are creating a unique, handmade product and intend to keep it that way.
So no huge factory unit for us. We are a rural Cornish business who try very hard to offer you a reliable, friendly service and products of which we are proud.
